Primary Program

Our Primary community represents order and beauty, and each classroom bears the distinguishing marks of students and teachers working to create an authentic Montessori environment.

Within a warm and intimate setting, trained Montessori teachers introduce Primary students to a variety of activities designed to support and foster independence while stimulating and challenging the intellect.

Our Primary community consists of mixed-age groups, which promotes learning opportunities absent in a class of students of the same age.

For instance, older students serve as leaders and mentors to younger students, enabling younger students to enhance their learning by observing the social interaction and work of their older classmates.

In a meticulously "prepared environment," teachers give individuals and groups carefully designed Montessori lessons in practical life, sensorial work, language, math, and culture. More importantly, the lessons are designed to allow students to learn at their own pace.

Lessons on “grace and courtesy,” as well as clear and consistent expectations of appropriate behavior, strengthen students' respect for themselves, others, and their environment.

Students graduate from our Primary program reading fluently, writing legibly, and doing addition and subtraction in both the concrete and the abstract.

Our primary program comprises the Apple and Pear room, and to accommodate the needs of our families, we offer a number of scheduling options: school day, extended day, or all
